Problems and Solutions

Central New York has a long and storied agricultural heritage, yet little of our food comes comes from local sources. While we would all like to see more local food on our store shelves and on our tables, the realities of the global food system place a few obstacles in the way.

The following outlines some problems that institutions and local suppliers face when working with each other.

What are the problems?                 What are potential solutions?

Lack of Processing Plants    —   Build a food processing plant

          Harvest Storage   —   Refrigerated Warehouses

Insufficient Supply   —   Invest in expanding local farms

Winter Climate   —   Greenhouses and Hydroponics
